The Amen-Ra of Universal Hip Hop Culture

Speaking of Bambaataa, anyone in Toronto this weekend who likes hip hop, electro or both, should head down to Revival this Saturday (Dec.1st/2007). If I didn't have a huge exam coming up in a week, I would be so sweaty on that dancefloor. belie' dat.

Get Up = 1,2 Step - Bambaataa

I totally missed this song when it came out, and it's probably a good thing, because recently I've resolved my blood pressure issues and this would have sent me over the top. I loved 1,2 Step. I thought that song was dope because, among other things, it was new-urban pop made for little girls to pseudo 'pop' to, but if you knew anything about hip hop or electro, it was so much more.

Get Up is actually just 1,2, Step without Planet Rock as the primary influence. It's like they were really inspired by 1,2 Step, so they did a song based on that.

Ranting, I apologize.

Nasty Mix

My favorite Toronto DJ, Nasty Nav, started his own record label. NASTY MIX. You'll see alot of this guy mentioned, because he's dope. And because he's a good guy. And because, fuck, I like a hardworker like Nav, grinding shit out. His first release is the Bird Peterson Solid Trunk EP.

Goodluck with it Nav.

Cop the Solid Trunk EP here.

or better yet, hit up Play De Record and support Nav even more. Oh. Yeah, you didn't know?

The Boss and Chuck Taylor

Big up to jamphat for the image, hip hop math is back!!!

So Rick 'the boss' Ross' new album was pushed back. Big fucking surprise, right? But I gotta say, I'm excited for it. I was telling Cass last night after we checked out this studio, two of my go-to MC's right now are two guys I never thought I would like: Rick Ross and The Game. They both came out with more basic styles. They both claimed not to really be rappers, but rather that they were hustlers (who rap good, blah), and they were both seeming to ride other peoples coat-tails (Jeezy and Curtis, respectively). But now they've both proved to be alot deeper than their inital attempts at radio. But also, when I look back two of my favorite singles in 2006 were One Blood and Hustlin, and neither was a half-step pop-effort, and both fucking smashed.

So in the honour of this realization, and in sadness that I have to wait until '08 for both of these releases, here are a couple tracks, one new and previous gem from each.

Ludacris ft/ Rick Ross and Bun B- Down in tha Durty
Rick Ross- Blow

The Game- Walk in The Streets

Da Art of Blogging Pt. IV (billion)

It's simple really. This is a blog. Most likely much like any other blog. It will deliver to you just my thoughts ladies and gentleman. Just what I'm feelin' at the time. The posts may help you a) waste time at work, b) entertain yourself for but a fleeting second or c) provide you an outlet with which to curse the name of two dude's from Canada you don't even actually know. I don't know about you but i think that's a solid deal. Anyways, I like all sorts of random shit, most of which is covered on other blogs. I suppose that should be a good enough reason to just give up on the whole blogging thing, but fuck it...and more importantly, fuck that. So just check out Celebutante Kitten everyday, and I promise it will be the best ever. Occassionally. Relatively speaking.

That's it.

I can't concentrate anymore. 3 Stacks is too crazy and I'm not turnin' off the song. Part IV is insane.

First Post

Our foray into the blogosphere started with the blog over at the e-zine Hot Flux Empire. Due to some technical difficulties, we haven't been able to post there in like a month, so today I'm starting this little gem. CELEBUTANTE KITTEN. Although it's a reference to young, party girl coochie, this isn't one of those blogs (much respect due, nonetheless). Sorry folks, this is one of those music/fashion/parties/food/culture/whatever-the-fuck-I-want blogs. Yeah yeah, another one of those.

I can't do much more of a post at the moment, trying to get my work done, but I thought this was important enough to take care of. So here's my first post, my edit of a Jokers of the Scene track that I love.
